Making Glycerin Based Melt and Pour Soap
Equipment that you will need:
Melting the Soap Base
There are two methods to melt the glycerin soap base, the easiest method is to use the microwave. Glycerin soap base melts at approximately 140F to 160F degrees. Cut the desired amount of soap base into one inch chunks and place them into a microwave safe measuring cup.(4 cup size works the best). Place the cup in the microwave and heat for 50 seconds on medium power level. If the soap is not melted, heat in 10 second intervals as necessary to melt the soap completely. (Warning. The cup will be hot after heating)
Adding Fragrance and Dye
Very little fragrance and Dye is needed in soap making. The most fragrance we recommend using is 1/4 ounce of fragrance to 1 pound of soap base. (approximately 1-11/2 teaspoon per pound) Using to much fragrance will make the soap feel greasy. Slowly stir the fragrance into the soap as to prevent putting air into the soap. It is best to add fragrance first before adding the dye so that you can get the color that you want. We recommend the bath and body safe liquid dye for coloring. Add a drop of color at a time to the melted soap until you reach the color that you want. (you can drop a little of the soap on a white piece of paper to see what shade you have.
Pouring soap into molds
Slowly pour the mixture into the soap molds being careful not to overpour the mold. Allow the soap to harden completely before removing from the mold.
Using your soap
That's all there is to it. If you are not going to use the soap right away, wrap it in saran wrap to keep moisture and dust from settling on the finished bar.
Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
